"Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, 'Good-bye, stay warm, and eat well,' but then you don't give that person what they need. What good does that do? So you see, faith without action is empty."
— James 2:15–17 (NLT)
It is our duty and responsibility to take action to help others. This is not about politics—this is about humans helping humans. When our neighbors face food insecurity, we have both the opportunity and the obligation to respond with compassion, dignity, and immediate action. — Chanda L Spates, Founder/Executive Director Flourish Foundation Project
“This is a crisis — and when our people are in crisis, we act. The need is immediate and undeniable. I called this press conference in support of Flourish Foundation Project’s plan for a community rapid response. Doing nothing is not an option. I’m urging every pastor, every organization, and every caring person to step forward now — to give, to serve, and to make sure no family goes hungry.”
— Rev. Corine Mack, President, NAACP Charlotte-Mecklenburg Chapter
“When we fail to feed the hungry or care for those in need, we are not simply turning away from a person — we are turning away from God Himself. Christ reminds us, ‘Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’ Feed & Flourish gives us a chance to do what love requires — to see God in our neighbor and to serve Him through compassion in action.”
— Pastor Barrington Johnson,New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC
Understanding the Crisis
North Carolina is experiencing an unprecedented surge in food insecurity. The longest federal shutdown in U.S. history has created a perfect storm: SNAP shortfalls and delays, combined with hundreds of thousands of furloughed workers, have pushed food banks and church pantries beyond their capacity.

Food banks are serving 9 additional families for every 1 they typically support. Many seeking help have never needed assistance before. The need is immediate, widespread, and growing daily.
Who We're Serving
Food insecurity doesn't discriminate. The people who need our help are our neighbors, colleagues, and fellow community members. They are people who have worked hard, contributed to our communities, and now face circumstances beyond their control.
The Elderly Neighbor
Stretching a fixed income that was already tight, now facing impossible choices between medication and meals.
The Cancer Patient
Unable to work during treatment, fighting for their health while worrying about feeding their family.
The Disabled Veteran
Who once served our nation with honor, now needing temporary support during an unprecedented crisis.
The Working Parent
Choosing between gas to get to work and groceries to feed their children—decisions no parent should face.
The Furloughed Worker
Seeking help for the first time in their lives, uncertain when their next paycheck will arrive.
This is our community. These are our people. Together, we can ensure that no neighbor goes hungry.
